April 7, 2006: The ICG organised the seminar on GOA STATE POLICY FOR PERSONS WITH DISABLITIES where ICG as a facilitator brought Government and civil society together to deliberate on the draft Policy. The recommendations made to the draft policy were incorporated in the Act. Shri. Subhash Shirodkar – Minister for Social Welfare and Women & Child Development, delivered the keynote address to the seminar.
Subsequently the Bombay High Court has directed the State of Maharashtra to refer to the Goa Act as a “model” Act while drafting the State Policy. The Govt. of India – Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has also awarded the prestigious national award for creation of barrier free environment to Directorate of Social Welfare of Goa.
