Dhananjay Joshi (Anagarika Jyotipala) was born in Akola, India and lived in Pune. On completing his Bachelors in Electronics and Telecommunications from College of Engineering, Pune, he pursued graduate studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. Dhananjay has spent major part of his life practicing Vipassana and Zen Meditation with Buddhist Masters from India, Thailand and Korea. He co-founded the Chicago Meditation Center. He writes a weekly column on meditation practices in the Marathi newspaper “Lokmat”. He also writes book reviews for the Quest quarterly of the Theosophical society of America. A native of Chicago for more than 46 years, after retiring from the corporate world, he teaches Statistics and Lean Six Sigma classes at a local university. He has also published a book by the same title “Making Friends with Death”
He proposes to fill two hours with a talk and practice. He then plans to conduct an exercise called the ” Last letter” in which he asks the audience to imagine that they have 30 minutes to live and an opportunity to write one last letter. “Do it now” we say and give them paper and pencil. Who they write to and what they write is entirely up to them. It is an opening up experience in the last moments of one’s life.
