Dr Rathin Roy is Director, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi, since 2013. Prior to that, he was Director of the Asia Pacific Regional Centre, UNDP, Bangkok, and the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG), UNDP, Brazil. He has also served as the Public Resource Management Advisor, and the Acting Cluster Leader, Inclusive Development, in the Poverty Practice, Bureau for Development Policy (BDP), UNDP. He was invited by the Government of India to serve as Economic Advisor to the Thirteenth Finance Commission. More recently, he was appointed member of the Seventh Central Pay Commission. Dr Roy has worked in over 80 countries during and prior to his tenure with UNDP. He is well known for his contributions in the area of applied macroeconomic and fiscal policy.
Dr Roy holds a PhD in Economics and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge, UK, and was tenured at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and the Institute for Development Policy and Management, University of Manchester.
