Sir Mark Tully is a freelance journalist and broadcaster based in New Delhi. He earlier worked with the BBC for 30 years of which he spent 20 years as the Bureau Chief in New Delhi. He has covered all major events in South Asia since 1965, including Indo-Pakistan wars, the assassinations of Indira Gandhi (and anti-Sikh riots) and Rajiv Gandhi, the Bhopal gas tragedy, and the demolition of the Babri Masjid. Sir Tully is the author or co-author of several books on India, notably Amritsar: Mrs Gandhi’s Last Battle (1985), No Full Stops in India (1988), India in Slow Motion (2003), India’s Unending Journey (2008) and Non-Stop India (2011). He was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1985 and received the KBE (Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 2002. Among numerous other awards and honours, Sir Tully was awarded the Padma Shree in 1992 and the Padma Bhushan in 2005.
