Protection of The Ozone Layer

Mr. Sunil Shetye completed his graduation in Mechanical Engineering in 1988 from Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi and M. E. in Mechanical Engineering from VJTI Mumbai in the year 1998. He has a combined experience of over 30 years in industry and academia. He is presently working as Head of Mechanical Engineering Department at Government Polytechnic Panaji. He has also worked at A.C.G.L. Honda, Goa Instruments Industries Pvt. Ltd. and as Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Institute of Ship Building Technology, Bogda, Vasco-Da- Gama, Goa. He has served Indian Junior Chamber Mormugoa Port in the capacity of Vice President in the year 1995. He has performed at National level for the Konkani musical group Swarashri from Vasco. He is a member of ISHRAE Goa Chapter, Member of Indian Plumbing Association, Goa Chapter and Member of Association of Industrial Engineers.

International Day for the Preservation of Ozone Layer: September 16 is designated by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day for the Preservation of Ozone Layer commemorating the date of the signing, in 1987, of the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer. The closure of the hole in the ozone layer was observed 30 years after the protocol was signed. Due to the nature of the gases responsible for ozone depletion, their chemical effects are expected to continue for between 50 to 100 years.

The talk is to create awareness about the ozone depleting substances, the effects of ozone layer depletion and the role of individuals in protecting the ozone layer.
