Increasing demand for energy and use of fossil fuels to produce electricity have put our planet in peril. Toxic emissions and increasing greenhouse gases have created a situation, from which the world needs to urgently escape.

Fortunately, this awareness has also given a fillip, and a propelling force to find viable solutions through numerous renewable green energy sources. Multi-pronged approach for production and storage of energy today dominates Research and Development, Industrial implementation and the Policies most of the Governments world-wide.

The presentation will look at the present global scenario along with India’s national potential and local possibilities in Goa and the Konkan region.

The presentation will give examples from the current renewable energy technologies such as:

* Solar photovoltaics
* Concentrated solar thermal (CST)
* Wind energy
* Tidal energy
* Geothermal energy

Bijon B. Shaha is former Director of the Electronics Test and Development Centre, Goa, a Master of Engineering from the Calcutta University, has experience of more than 40 years in guiding, evaluating, and providing training to different industries in various parts of India covering the areas of :

* Testing and Calibration
* Management System Assessment for Certification
* Industry training through seminars and workshop

Currently, he is involved in providing training to industry and conducting Management System Audits. Besides in India, he has also undergone numerous advanced training in USA, Germany, and Austria.
